My Skincare Routine: Winter

|AFF*| Since my early days of skincare usage in my tweens, I’ve grown a lot and discovered so much about my skin.

My first skin care set was a knock-off brand kit that made me constantly google if it was normal for my skin to break out aggressively after use. After learning no, god no, that’s not normal– I started looking into a lot into skin care. By now, my sources come from a mix of my own experience, as well as reviews from Youtubers and other online reviews. My skin is not perfect, it’s currently combo-to-oily.

Not sure what your skin type is? I’ll leave a few guides below to help. But for now, let me tell you my current skincare routine.

Cleanser

My current favorite cleanser is the Aveeno Clear Complexion Foaming Salicylic Acid Cleanser. I mentioned it in my February Favorites so I’ll keep it brief: it’s the best cleanser for me so far!

I’m vary much a fan of treatment cleansers, sneaking in an extra active ingredient step without layering twenty serums. This cleanser is a great alternative to the Cerave Renewing SA cleanser–which is often out of stock– if you don’t mind a little clean-smelling fragrance. Nothing overbearing in my opinion, it’s more like a masking smell but it is noticeable.

I use this product only at night and splash my face with water in the morning. Although I have oily skin, I can have dry skin very quickly if I over do it with stripping products, no matter how gentle so this is a nice alternative with only 0.5% salicylic acid.

Treatment/Serum

Skincare routine: serum

My treatment of choice currently is the Fourth Ray Beauty Rainfall 2% HA Serum.

I will warn you, it smells very strongly of cucumbers and has ingredients that double as fragrance. It does not affect my skin and smells nice and spa-like, but can be sensitizing for people with sensitive skin. Otherwise, it’s a really nice hyaluronic acid serum. I’m still obsessed with touching my face and feeling the bounciness after using this product!

I use this at night but occasionally during the day after cleansing.

Exfoliation

skincare routine: exfoliation

One of my favorite products in my skincare routine is the First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads.

This was the first product I used that really made a different for me. I had been using sugar scrubs which always irritated my face no matter how gentle they were, but I loved the look of my clean pores. Chemical exfoliates do the same without the fear of being too abrasive, and this First Aid Beauty product is so, so gentle. I’d recommend it for any skin types, especially sensitive skin.

I exfoliate once or twice a day. After showering, this is nice product to get all the dead skin cells off but I also use it in the morning after splashing my face clean with water. It’s gentle enough to use twice a day, but also effective enough to use only one a day.

Moisturizer

Another First Aid Beauty product, and a popular best-selling one at that, is the Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration.

I know I mentioned earlier I have combo-oily skin, but this cream helps balance out the dryness from using the previously mentioned actives. It is a heavy cream, but I found myself loving this cream at night and for any dry patches I develop. A key ingredient is colloidal oatmeal, an active soothing skin protecting ingredient that adds to the gentle but strong moister.

I use this product multiple times a day: after a shower, morning and night, or whenever I feel like I need it. Although very gentle, it may be too much to use twice a day for those of you with very oily skin.

Mask

Fourth Ray Beauty’s Soak It Up Hydrating Mask is a nice alternative to the Rainfall 2% HA I mentioned earlier.

They both are pretty similar, but the mask has more ingredients and smells just as strongly. The feeling of the mask is so hydrating, it feels like literal water on your face. The instructions say to leave in on for 10 minutes before wiping off, but I pat mine on thinly and keep it on all night. My skin doesn’t break out or experience any irritation, just hydration. It’s a nice addition if my skin is moisturized, but needs to feel hydrated, and plump.

I use this product a few times a week in my skincare routine whenever I feel I need it.

Conclusion

And that’s my skincare routine! There’s a few things I didn’t mention like lip balm, lip mask and sunscreen, but I haven’t found a staple yet so I’ve been testing out new products.

What about you? What’s your favorite part of your skincare routine? For me it’s actives because I love seeing the change over time on my face!
