As the first day of summer quickly approaches and Covid-19 cases starts to simmer down in some countries, it’s going to be the perfect time to get outside. For many, this is going to be the first summer in a while where we can safely go outside.
Summer makeup is fun, dewy and pretty, but also needs to consider travel friendliness into consideration. That being said, here’s my top picks for summer makeup that’s light, waterproof and glowy.
This mascara is the best of you want length, separation and a little volume. I wouldn’t describe it as a thick, voluminous mascara but it doesn’t ever clump no matter how much you apply. I know that’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but a natural lash look can be a great option in the summer.
This would be great for a light makeup beach day where all you need is brows and mascara. And, even better, it’s waterproof so you can go for a swim.
Another staple for this summer season: cream blush.
It looks amazing at the beach, but also long-wearing enough for a day out of town. This cream blush in particular is on the thicker side, but blends out smoothly and can be sheered out into a softer color.
Another great drugstore option, it works well with light foundation. It has a glowy finish and once you get over the texture for the first few times, it’s a great option for the summer at only $6 US.
Want a lightweight, light coverage foundation? Try this skin milk from Covergirl.
It’s great for summer if you want to wear makeup, but want that no-makeup makeup look. It has a glowy, dewy finish and isn’t very heavy on the skin but provides a little more coverage than a tinted moisturizer.
Although something to note: it contains coconut oil, which is known for some people to cause breakouts. It doesn’t automatically mean if you have acne-prone skin that it’ll cause breakouts, but something to keep in mind if this product doesn’t work for you.
Otherwise, it’s great light weight foundation.
A blush and lip balm duo, minis like this are the best to throw in your purse or beach back. The shades are a pinky-nude and are pigmented, but soft enough to be natural.
This blush is a classic and has been around for years, although the mini kit is new for this summer. It comes in a soft, universal shade and although it’s a mini, it’ll likely take you awhile to get through.
The lip balm in this kit delivers a soft, sheer color and shine. It also contains nourishing and hydrating ingredients for the lips.
Never tried a Nars product? This might be a great introduction for $24.
*This kit is only available at Ulta
Here’s a classic: Urban Decay’s Naked eyeshadow palettes. Cherry in particular is a nice shade range from lighter pinks to deep maroons, and a nice choice for summer.
It’s a little bulky, but if you want one go-to palette, this is your choice for color. It’s buildable but pigmented for a great pop of red on the eyes. It also looks gorgeous on those with darker skin tones.
Naked Cherry also comes with a duel-ended brush and full size mirror, making it an even better traveling favorite. Not into reds? There’s also the original Naked palette, Naked Honey and Naked Ultra Violet. Great options for $49.
So that’s my top picks for summer! Here’s some things to look for in makeup in order to achieve a dewy, natural look for any type of warm weather: waterproof, light-weight foundation, glowy blush, cream products and stunning highlights.
Have you tried any of these products? Or, what’s your go-to travel friendly makeup? Let me know.
