My Ulta Haul: Skincare and Makeup

|AFF*| A couple of weeks ago an Ulta opened up near my area, so I decided to give it a look!

The nearest Ulta for me was a drive, but more than that it was a drive through a very busy city to get to the shopping mall, so I never went. But, now a new physical store opened up semi-closer, but the trip is much less traffic-heavy and has a bunch of my favorite stores on the way.

But I’m rambling now, aren’t I? Let’s just jump into what I got.

Ulta haul

I got mostly makeup, but also a few skincare products as well. Let’s start with skincare, then.

I wanted to try a COSRX product, and their AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid fit my bill. I wanted to replace my First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads because they become quite expensive over time and the pads are wasteful.

I’ve used it twice so far, but I haven’t gotten much in terms of results. I’m being careful and only using it once or twice a week since it is supposed to be strong, but nothing substantial has happened yet. I’m still going to play around with it, but at least no negative side effects so far.

I also got myself another bottle of the Fourth Ray Beauty Hyaluronic Acid Serum. I tried a smaller size which came in the Christmas bundle and it lasted me a long time! But, I was running low so I bought the regular sized one.

It definitely has a plumping effect and is moisturizing, but I don’t think it’s a very necessary step in your skincare routine. It’s nice and makes your skin feel nice but not an essential serum. I’d recommend a niacinamide serum over this one.

I also picked up some makeup. Of course, I had to get me a Colourpop palette, and the Bambi collection was on sale. I wanted the Thumper palette but they ran out so I decided to get this Bambi eyeshadow palette one instead.

The packaging is adorable, and the shades are nice too. I was afraid that it would be too similar to the What a Hoot palette from the Animal Crossing collection, but this palette is much more yellow-toned than I expected. I’ll leave some swatches below, but the browns are more warm and yellow rather than neutral. They’re also extremely pigmented, to the point of almost being too pigmented. I have to use a very light hand.

I also picked up a Lux Gloss from the Melrose collection in the shade Cross Street. The glosses are pretty sheer in color and I got a soft brown shade but it doesn’t look very different than the clear shade. Only the very dark shades show some pigment, but I’m okay with that.

I much prefer the Lux Gloss texture and formula to the Ultra Glossy Lip. It’s a little thinner but it feels much nicer on the lips and sinks into the skin a lot better. I also like the doe-foot applicator a lot better, as the brush can be hard work with.

I also wanted to try a cream blush, so I decided to get this one from Milani. It’s in the shade Nude Kiss and I can see why people love cream blushes.

It blends out nicely, and the color shows up without being too bright. Cream blushes sink into the skin perfectly and provide a slight sheen to the cheeks. It’s a very pretty color that you can build up. It takes more time to blend and build, but I love the effect it gives so it’s worth it in my opinion. I’ve used it several times already and I love it.

Another blush I got was from Essence. They are so affordable and they were having a buy one, get one 40% off sale, so I picked up this blush and a powder. The blush is just called the Mosaic blush in the shade All You Need is Pink.

It’s a nice nude pink blush, but comes with a few different colors in the compact ranging from a very nude soft pink to a slightly deeper pink shade. Blended together it looks like one cohesive shade. It’s decently pigmented and I can pile it on without having to worry about adding too much.

I also got a powder from Essence called the Brighten Up! Banana Powder. It’s a very soft yellow-toned powder that’s pretty translucent on the skin. I like to use it under my eyes but also as an all over the face setting powder. It’s pretty subtle, but it does the job. Also, I love the Essence clear compacts, but I heard they break easily so I have to test it.

My final makeup product and final product of this haul is the NYX Micro Brow Pencil in the shade Taupe. I have pretty dark eyebrows- a dark brown to almost black, but I went a little lighter with the color.

Taupe is your perfect medium-to-dark brown that ashy in color and doesn’t have a red undertone. A lot of brow products I find that are dark but not in the shade black are very warm-toned, so I’m glad I found this option. It takes more time than my powder brow product, but it can look much more natural.

And that’s all! I would say this is a decently sized haul and I got a variety of things. So far, my favorites are the Milani Cream blush and Essence Mosaic blush.

Let know if you have tried any of these products and which products looks the best to you!
