Here’s my recent dollar tree find: a Maybelline Mascara called the Snapscara!
I love to check the beauty section at my local dollar tree because every once in a while, there will be a good drugstore brand there. Often, it’s some older E.L.F. products, a ton of L.A Colors and some Wet n’ Wild. But, after scanning through the isle, I found this product nestled in the middle!
I haven’t done a full-on single review in a while, so I decided to try and start again with this mascara. This is my second time trying a Maybelline mascara, so I’m excited to see what this one can do. Hopefully, it’s another dollar store gem!
So without further ado, let’s get into this review.
This mascara is from Maybelline, a drugstore brand in America that’s sold in the majority of countries (including China, for those of you who are cruelty-free). They sell a lot of different products over the years and many different kinds of mascara. Are you aware of the Maybelline Skyhigh mascara that became popular recently? It’s by the same company!
This mascara costs around $7 depending on the store you buy it from, although I managed to find this at a dollar tree for $1. It varies around $7, but you may be able to get it cheaper at Walmart or on Amazon.
I should also note this mascara is technically a colored mascara in the color 320 Black Cherry. There was also a brighter purple mascara available in my store as well. By the looks of their website, it seems Maybelline has phased out their colored mascaras in this line, since I only see the black and brown versions online currently.
Maybelline Snapscara claims to be smooth, clump-free and give volume. It says on it’s packaging it goes on in a snap, and comes off in a snap. The color of the packaging implies it’s a dark purple color. Let’s see if it lives up to those claims.

I must say, I absolutely adore the packaging. It comes in a typical clear plastic packaging, but have some silver detailing and a black cap. It also snaps nicely when you close the cap, letting you know you closed it properly. But, it’s the dark purple showing through that I love, along with the eye graphic designs on one side of the barrel. The letter art is nice and crisp, easily to read and looks pleasing to the eye. A very nice design for a drugstore mascara!
When you hold the wand up to the light, you can definitely see the hint of dark purple. The wand is a unique shape as well. The middle of the wand itself is curved, but the bristles start large on the end and get smaller the closer to the tip it goes. I saw someone describe it as a slanted Christmas tree, and yeah, that’s accurate.
When I first applied it, I was happy to learn a few things: it’s a drier formula, but not too dry as in it flakes, but dry enough that it doesn’t smudge very easily. In about three blinks, I got a very decent amount of product.
This snapscara separates the lashes, and lengthens without adding clumps. As far as volume, it takes some time. If you like more dramatic lashes, you’ll have to build to get volume but it does layer nicely. Remember how I mentioned I got the color black cherry? There’s absolutely no hints of purple on the eyes.
I don’t understand how because when I rub the wand on the back of my hand, there’s clearly dark purple pigment, but it just doesn’t register on the eyes. I was actually hoping for this- I don’t wear colorful mascara but purple was the only shade available, so I gave this one a go.
But if you are looking for a deep purple mascara, you might want to skip out on this one.

I greatly enjoyed the Maybelline Snapscara. I personally like my mascaras a little more natural, so I’m willing to sacrifice some volume in order to get more natural, clump-free lashes.
I wouldn’t say this is the most natural mascara either- there’s still a decent amount of separation and length, so it’s the perfect mascara for everyday wear. I think anyone who wants a good, everyday mascara but wants something that’ll actually show up should try this.
Also, it washes off very well. I would describe the wash-off experience almost like a tubing mascara: it doesn’t smudge black all under your eyes but instead flakes off. It makes clean up really quick, and you don’t need any kind of makeup remover in my experience, just warm water and light rubbing.
Overall, I really like it. A great drugstore option if you don’t mind either more natural lashes or taking the time to build volume. I highly recommend!
